Nationale was developed as part of the National Museum of Denmark’s new visual identity, but has since been used for a much wider audience. The idea of “layers” of time and understanding was the main driver behind the new visual concept for the museum. Allowing for the typeface to rise above the layers in time, understanding and perception, the aim was to develop a clean, constant and factual typeface. In strong relation to the classic typefaces Futura, Avenir and Gill Sans — with its timeless and simplistic geometric shapes — Nationale is an attempt to create the cleanest possible expression in a typeface leaving maximum range for the story told. Nationale is highly legible and communicative and functions well as both body text and as display.
