As an extension of the Non Objective poster collection, we have made our first mini collection consisting of straight up - high quality, t-shirts, sweatshirts, scarfs, bags and skateboards.
As everything else we create, this collection is based on our own typefaces. This time we have experimented with a range of colored type compositions, rubber printed on 100% cotton sweatshirts and t-shirts. Furthermore we have some basic items, nylon/leather tote bags, statement skateboards and beautiful thin-woven scarfs.

After four years of hard work Playtype now proudly present the grandest typeface ever made in the history of Danish design. The typeface Berlingske, was originally designed by Jonas Hecksher in 2010 for the Danish daily Berlingske. Today, after four years of further develop with extended styles, language and weights, it represents a wide ranged family that provides diversity to play around and give any section or subject area a specific tonality without sacrificing consistency. The resulting font family comes in more 227 weights and contains almost half a million different glyphs.
The Berlingske design is carefully balanced to deliver significant modernization while paying homage to a unique heritage. The typeface is crafted to give a smooth and exclusive look that optimizes the visual experience: providing a clear and sharp readability while being aesthetically pleasing.
Berlingske was originally designed as a distinctly newspaper typography, where the difference in height between capitals and minuscule has to be significant in order for the text to be immediately decodable. Today the selection of weights ranges from elegant thin to an expressive poster and fits for body text, display and headlines. The amount of styles embraces a wide range of section and subject area, spanning from news, fashion, art, politics, economic, society, culture, sport and to lifestyle. Berlingske is eminently readable and strikingly easy to navigate in while rich in identity and immediately recognizable.
Tremendous in volume
The first Berlingske design contained 21 weights customized for the newspaper Berlingske. After further develop with extended styles, language and weights, the typeface Berlingske today represents a wide ranged family with 227 different weights, each with 2100 glyphs, in total 476.700 Glyphs.
Berlingske is designed by Jonas Hecksher, Playtype forundry, and it is so far the largest type family ever designed by a Danish designer. Worldwide Berlingske is not only a broad ranged family in styles but is also compatible for 170 different languages, provides coverage for both Western and Eastern European languages plus Cyrillic, Greek, Greek Extended, Latin Extended Additional, Baltic & Vietnamese. The amount of styles and languages makes is suitable for use all kinds of purpose, all over the world.

e-Types is proud to announce that our partner and creative director Jonas Hecksher has been honored with the Danish designers' own prestige prize, the Knud V. Engelhardt Memorial Award. The committee recognizes Jonas Hecksher for his position as one of the most talented and productive type designers in Denmark, for his contribution to establishing typography as a strong element in visual branding strategy and, furthermore, as a leading creative force in the development of the type foundry and concept store, Playtype, which has strengthened the awareness of typography and made it more accessible.
Since its inception in 2010, Playtype has in a very short time established itself as a strong design brand working with typography in life style products and graphic installations – and it has been recognized internationally as a provider of innovative typography of the highest standards. Jonas Hecksher has designed several significant and well-known typefaces for highly profiled companies and organizations in Denmark such as the Royal Danish Theater, Maersk, the Danish police force and Roskilde Festival.
In May 2014, the Berlingske typeface, will be launched in 204 cuts, each with 2100 characters — a work of international class that includes the creation of more than 428.000 different characters and glyphs exclusive to that specific typeface. This work links Jonas Hecksher directly to graphic designer and architect Knud V. Engelhardt in whose memory the foundation was created. Engelhardt played an important part in the modernization of the graphic design of the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende in 1913 and the following years. Knud V. Engelhardt's memorial award is regarded as a prestigious award in Danish design. It is awarded once a year by a selected committee and cannot be applied for. In the future, the works of Jonas Hecksher will be part of the print and drawing collection at Design Museum Denmark, where preparatory sketches and original drawings will be saved for the future.

Nationale is developed in 2013 as a part of the new visual identity for the National Museum of Denmark.
The original purpose of this typeface was to represent the museum as whole — with treasures from art and history. The Nationale typeface capsules the layers of time and reduces them to a modern but timeless expression embracing both the past and the future.

FAUX is a three-dimensional all caps display typeface inspired from old stone carving and engraving techniques. Being all caps, FAUX is not a full standard character set. See specimen for all included glyphs.
FAUX Orient and FAUX Occident are two sides of the same typeface - each taking name from the direction from where the light is cast onto the carvings in the surface. Place FAUX Orient on top of FAUX Occident to form fully outlined glyphs. To achieve a playful expression, use both FAUX Orient and Occident set in two different colours. FAUX is used in a Playtype product collection merged with a black and white marble trompe l'oeil technique.
Combined with the decadency of the marbleizing technique, FAUX tells a story about the superior and pretentious baroque expression.
For the third time we bring our ‘In Love With Typography’ poster collection, and as you know; third time's the charm. The posters come in two different designs, but they are both about lines and dots. The fonts are from the ID00-family and the colours are kept in black and bronze.

Antwerp is a 16th-Century typeface with contemporary proportions. The design is a free spirited amalgamation and interpretation of the all inspiring archives of type on display in the Museum Plantin-Moretus in the Belgian city Antwerp — hence the font's name.
The typeface was developed as part of Kubel’s studies at the Expert class Type design 2010–11 at Plantin Institute of Typography. The concept behind the typeface was to create a contemporary family of text typefaces with historical references. The final design incorporates a large x-height and has a warm appearance on the printed page as well as on screen.
The first drawings were done by hand on paper before it was developed into digital format, on screen in FontLab. The family of typefaces evolved slowly over a period of ten months during my many journeys between London to Antwerp. The final set of typefaces has been designed as OpenType fonts and features many number styles including old style figures (non aligning numerals) plus a large set of ligatures and fractions. Antwerp is available in 5 weights with sophisticated 19° Italic styles as companion and supports extended Latin A language settings (Eastern European).
"My passion and admiration for 15th and 16th century Italian, French and Dutch typefaces might shine through in Antwerp — I acknowledge that it has become an integral part of my ‘type dna’ — It’s how I design letters, fonts, alphabets and it’s also a direct translation of how I draw type by hand on paper — in other words, I have been conditioned by history!
I set out to design a typeface with a solid range of weights giving designers and art directors maximum choice: Light, Regular, Medium, SemiBold & Bold + Corresponding italic styles when typesetting books, newspapers and magazines. The importance and focus on detail in the individual glyphs are intentional and something I have spent a long time crafting. Large punctuation, slightly inclined stems, old style serifs and pronounced ink traps are all part of the underlying structure of my final font. The relatively large x-height* is a decision I made to bring my design more into the 21st century and essentially make fit with the current trends found in the design and advertising community.
*It is argued that a large x-height aids legibility although no conclusive studies have been published on this subject. I have tried to incorporate my love of handwriting and the flow of my own ‘shorthand’ into my Italic font(s). Normally an Italic typeface is between 7–15° slanted, my italic is 19° which is a feature I have been looking for when designing books and setting text myself. Since the introduction of digital type, italics have become less and less slanted and has in essence moved closer to the romans. From a technical and aesthetic point of view it’s understandable, however, in real life, when it comes to how type performs on the printed page and web as well; I call for italics with more contrast! After all since the 16th century Italic typefaces are used to highlight words and sentences in text – this is what my typeface does as well as of course keeping the proportions and overall structure of the roman.
Antwerp is in essence the culmination of all my scribbles, thoughts and research done over a period of many years — I acknowledge that it would not have been conceived had I not joined the Expert class Type design course under the guidance of Frank E. Blokland."

In collaboration KK Outlet — a communications agency/gallery/bookshop in London — and PLAYTYPE™ have designed a new font, KK Outlet. KK Outlet is a two-weight serif display face. The style is a mutated script transformed into a regular typeface with calligraphic swashes.
HANSEN is a menswear label wishing to reinvent and redefine the Nordic values within design, craftmanship and materials.
HANSEN's vision is to make use of Nordic cultural heritage and its craftsman traditions in order to create viable clothing in noble materials with a redefined finish.

Artist and activist, Ai Weiwei has been missing since April 3, where he was detained by the Chinese authorities in Beijing. Germany, France and the UK have officially expressed concern about his detainment. In Denmark, Ai Weiwei’s art is most famous for the installation that replaced The Little Mermaid while she was in Shanghai for Expo 2010. Ai Weiwei currently exhibits at Gl. Holtegaard and at Louisiana this fall.
Globally, Ai Weiwei cemented his name with the installation “Sunflower Seeds” at Tate Modern in London, which contained millions of small hand painted porcelain seeds. And at the Documenta exhibition, in the German city Kassel in 2007, where he presented an installation of 1001 wooden chairs from the Qing dynasty that ended its reign 100 years ago.
